Sometimes, there's no parameter. Sometimes, there's multiple parameters. Most of them are required, but some of them can be optional.
In this case,
alert()
requires only one parameter.
But what type of parameter is that?
When you handle text, you're using strings , which are a series of . In our case, we used a series of 12 characters : . This includes all lowercase and uppercase letters, the space, and the exclamation point.
To define where the string and where it , you need to wrap it in quotes (either single or double ).
